Specimen Collection & Preparation

Specimen Requirements:

8.0 mL Urine in a Yellow Conical Tube
Minimum Volume:
5.0 mL Urine *

* This volume does not allow for repeat testing

Collection Instructions:

Patient should not urinate for at least one hour prior to collecting the specimen. 
Collect the first catch urine (approximately 20-50 mL of the initial urine stream) into a urine collection cup free of any preservatives. 


Processing Instructions:

This part of the preparation should be performed at Parkview Regional Medical Center only- the urine will come to Parkview Regional Medical Center in the collected Yellow Conical Tubes. Urine Swab is in the Yellow PCR Media Tube.

Once the collected yellow conical is received at PRMC Laboratory, the urine will be placed in the PCR Media (shown here).

Clinical Interpretation

Reference Range:

Negative for Chlamydia trachomatis by amplified probe


Test Comments:

For patients less than 12 years of age - Culture is the only recommended procedure for diagnosing chlamydial or gonorrheal infection in cases of suspected child abuse.
