Parkview Laboratories is replacing the existing traditional stool and yersinia cultures with molecular testing for stool specimens on the BD MAX+ instrument.
Go-live for this test is 9/16/24 at 0700. The traditional stool/yersinia culture will no longer be performed after this date, and any specimens received with this order will have the new molecular test performed instead.
Specimens will continue to be sent to PRMC for testing. There is no change to the specimen collection - raw stool or Cary-Blair fecal eSwab specimens will be accepted. Specimens should be refrigerated after collection. Please refer to the test here for more information.
The sensitivity and specificity of this test is much improved from traditional culture and allows for faster turnaround on test results. Providers will receive Detected/Not Detected results for the targets below:
-Shigella species/Enteroinvasive E. coli (EIEC)
-Shiga toxin genes 1/2 (STX1 or STX2)
-Campylobacter (jejuni or coli)
-Salmonella species
-Vibrio (vulnificus, parahaemolyticus, or cholerae)
-Plesiomonas shigelloides
-Enterotoxigenic E. coli (ETEC)
-Yersinia enterocolitica
