Consolidating Testing

On November 4, 2024 Parkview laboratories is discontinuing the Group A Streptococcus culture (LAB236, CXGRA) and replacing it with Throat culture (Lab228, CXTHR). These tests both already exist in the Parkview lab system and perform the same function but served different purposes over the years. We are now able to consolidate them to simplify processes.

There is no change in specimen collection, resulting, or turn-around time. This internal code change only affects the cultures, while the rapid Strep testing performed at PPG locations and at Parkview hospital locations are unaffected.

Please remove the Group A Strep culture from your provider preference lists and replace it with the Throat culture as soon as possible. Throat cultures may be ordered on patients now, prior to this change occurring in the software.
