Test Comments:

Most rapid growing pathogenic bacteria can be checked for antibiotic susceptibility. This procedure demands pure culture isolates. It is not necessary to request this procedure from clinical specimens since it cannot be predicted at time of specimen collection whether significant or testable pathogens will grow on isolation media. The test will be performed as indicated by the microbiologist.Isolates from some clinical sites may represent colonization or normal flora. These will not be routinely tested.Cultures are maintained for five days so that physician may have further opportunity for consultation in these cases.
