Test Notes

Always specify order of importance of CSF tests when multiple tests are ordered.

Reference Range:

RBC: 0 /uL

WBC: 0 - 5 /uL

Glucose: 40 - 70 mg/dL

Protein: 15 - 45 mg/dL

IgG: 0.5 - 6.1 mg/dL

Critical Ranges:

Any microorganism present on smear

Test Comments:

If > or = 5 WBC in the Cell Count, a differential will be reflexed and charged.

Due to interferences associated with PHL methodology, CSF protein measurements may not be accurate if intrathecal or intraventricular aminoglycosides have been administered, or aminoglycosides have been administered under conditions that may result in the breakdown of the blood-brain barrier.
