This test is for infants 6 months and younger


Specimen Requirements:

-OR-

0.5 mL Plasma from a Green Top Microtainer - Li Heparin in a Plastic Vial 
Minimum Volume:
0.25 mL Plasma*
Neonatal Volume:
0.3 mL Whole Blood Green Microtainer*

* This volume does not allow for repeat testing

Collection Instructions:

If potential for prolonged exposure to sunlight, specimen should be protected from the light by placing in an opaque bag


Processing Instructions:

Centrifuge and separate from cells within 72 hours of collection 


Rejection Criteria:

Avoid hemolysis


Transport and Storage:
  • Ambient (18-24°C): 1 Day
  • Refrigerated (2-8°C): 7 Days

Clinical Interpretation

Reference Range:

0 to 1 day: 0.0 - 5.0 mg/dL
1 day to 2 days: 0.0 - 6.0 mg/dL
2 days to 6 months: 0.0 - 7.0 mg/dL


Critical Ranges:

0 to 1 day: >/= 7.0 mg/dL 
2 days: >/= 12.0 mg/dL 
3 days to 6 months: > 15.0 mg/dL
