Clinical Interpretation

Reference Range:

1 day to 1 month: 23 - 56 Units/L
1 month to 1 year: 19 - 46 Units/L
1 year to Adult: 15 - 37 Units/L


Test Comments:

For elevated results: 

Occasionally, AST might be falsely elevated due to the presence of immunoglobulin-AST-complex.  When high concentrations of serum AST are observed in the absence of organ-specific disease, high levels of AST should be investigated for the presence of immunoglobulin-complexed enzyme as a cause for such results.
