Clinical Significance

This assay is used to monitor exposure to arsenic, wellness, and therapy during treatment of chronic myelocytic leukemia


Specimen Collection & Preparation

Patient Preparation

Avoid seafood consumption for 48 hours prior to collection


Specimen Requirements:

-OR-

4.0 mL Whole Blood in a Navy Blue Top Tube - EDTA Trace metal tube  (Purple Striped Label)
Minimum Volume:
2.0 mL Whole Blood*

* This volume does not allow for repeat testing

Collection Instructions:

Carefully clean skin prior to venipuncture. Avoid Worksite collection.


Rejection Criteria:

Frozen

Clotted


Transport and Storage:
  • Ambient (18-24°C): 10 Days

    Transport 

  • Refrigerated (2-8°C): 10 Days
  • Frozen (-20° C or colder): Unacceptable

Clinical Interpretation

Reference Range:

<23 mcg/L


Test Comments:

 Limitation: Arsenic may only be present in blood for 4-6 hours. This test is most accurate in acute poisoning
