Specimen Overview

Order must include patients age and gender

Specimen Requirements:

-OR-

20.0 mL aliquot from a well mixed 24 hour Urine Collection in a Plastic Container
Minimum Volume:
10.0 mL Urine
Collection Instructions:

1. When starting the 24-hour period, urinate and discard (throw-away) this specimen. NOTE THE TIME
2. From that time on, collect all urine by urinating into a clean container and transfer into the provided container. 
DO NOT URINATE DIRECTLY INTO CONTAINER.
3. Try to pass the last urine just prior to the end of the 24 hour period. Add this urine into the container. 
4. Urine Specimen should be kept refrigerated during and after collection.

Clinical Interpretation

Reference Range:

<1 year: <1.0 mg/24 hrs 
1 year to 4 years: <2.0 mg/24 hrs
5 years to 8 years: <3.0 mg/24 hrs
9 years to 12 years: 3.0 - 10.0 mg/24 hrs
13 years to 16 years: 5.0-12.0 mg/24 hrs 

Male
17 years to 20 years: 9.0-22.0 mg/24 hrs
> 20 years: 8.0 - 20.0 mg/24 hrs

Female
> 16 years: 6.0 - 15.0 mg/24 hrs

If age and sex are not provided Default: 6.0-20.0 mg/24 hrs
