Changes in Herpes Simplex Virus testing

Effective 8/19/2024, ARUP will discontinue Herpes Simplex Virus Type 1,2 Antibodies,  IgG and IgM (test code 0050291) and Herpes Simplex Virus Type 1,2 Antibodies, IgM by ELISA (test code 0050641) . 

There is no replacement tests available.  If acute HSV infection is suspected, molecular testing is preferred, refer to Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV-1/HSV-2) Subtype by PCR from ARUP (test code 2010095).  This test information can be found here as Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV-1/HSV-2) subtype by PCR (ARUP 2010095).
