Medical Necessity Documentation:  
Client Notes: Contact the supply department at 266-1500 (Option 4) to request Protein-Free Filtrate vials
Patient Preparation:  
Specimen Requirements: 4.5 mL Protein-free Filtrate in a Plastic Vial
Collection Instructions:

Keep acid tube cold before collection

Collect  4.0 mL Whole Blood in a Lavender Top Tube - EDTA 
Immediately vigorously mix with 4.0 mL prechilled, ice cold 7% or 8% perchloric acid
Let mixture stand for 10 minutes
Centrifuge and separate supernatant fluid.
Separate and submit 4.5 mL supernant fluid for assay refigerate
Maintain 1:1 ratio for whole blood and Perchloric acid 

Order must include volumes of blood and perchloric acid used.

Minimum Volume: 2.0 mL Protein-free Filtrate in a Plastic Vial
Transport & Storage: Temperature/Stability: 1 month Refrigerated (Preferred/transport)
3 months Frozen
Rejection Criteria: Ambient specimens
Reference Range:

Protein-free Filtrate: 0.30 - 1.50 mg/dL
