Specimen Collection & Preparation

Specimen Requirements:

2.0 mL Serum from a Red Top Tube in a Plastic Vial
Minimum Volume:
0.5 mL Serum*

* This volume does not allow for repeat testing

Transport and Storage:
  • Ambient (18-24°C): 8 Hours
  • Refrigerated (2-8°C): 48 Hours

    Specimen to be transported refrigerated to PRMC within 48 hours of collection to be frozen by Immunology department to maintain specimen integrity until testing occurs. 

  • Frozen (-20° C or colder): 30 Days

    Do not transport frozen

Clinical Interpretation

Reference Range:

IgG Antibody Not Detected: < 1.30
IgG Antibody Equivocal: 1.30 - 1.50
IgG Antibody Detected: > 1.50

IgM Antibody Not Detected: < 0.90
IgM Antibody Equivocal: 0.90 - 1.10
IgM Antibody Detected: > 1.10


Test Comments:

West Nile Antibodies may cross react with other Flaviviruses (E.G. Dengue, St. Louis Encephalitis, Eastern Equine Encephalitis, Yellow Fever
