Specimen Collection & Preparation

Specimen Requirements:

1.0 mL Serum from a Red Top Tube in a Plastic Vial
Minimum Volume:
0.3 mL Serum*

* This volume does not allow for repeat testing

Transport and Storage:
  • Refrigerated (2-8°C): 48 hours

    Transport within 48 hours

  • Frozen (-20° C or colder): 30 days

    Do not transport frozen

    Specimen to be transported refrigerated to Parkview Regional Medical Center within 48 hours of collection to be frozen by the Immunology department to maintain specimen integrity until testing occurs.

Clinical Interpretation

Reference Range:

OD ratio < 0.90 indicates no detectable Rubeola IgG antibody. No evidence of infection or immunity.
 
OD ratio 0.91 - 1.09 is equivocal for Rubeola, IgG antibody. Suggest a new specimen be collected and re-tested.
 
OD ratio > 1.10 is positive for Rubeola, IgG antibody. In asymptomatic patients, including prnatal screens, a positive value is consistent with previous infection or immunity.
