Specimen Requirements:

-OR-

1.8 mL Serum from a Red Top Tube in a Plastic Vial
Minimum Volume:
0.9 mL Serum*

* This volume does not allow for repeat testing

Processing Instructions:

Allow blood to clot at room temperature.

Centrifuge and separate serum from the cells immediately, within 48 hours of collection

Pipette serum into a plastic transport tube


Rejection Criteria:

Gross hemolysis

Grossly lipemic


Transport and Storage:
  • Ambient: 7 Days

  • Frozen (-20 C or colder): 2 Years

Test Comments:

Comment for reports for male patients over age 60: Aging men with clinically significant hypogonadal symptoms and testosterone values repeatedly in the range of the 200-300 ng/dL or less, may benefit from testosterone treatment after adequate risk and benefits' counseling.
