Patient Preparation:
URICP should be utilized for any uric acid measurement while patient is being given rasburicase. URICP should continue to be utilized for any uric acid measurement for 4 days after rasburicase administration is discontinued.
Specimen Requirements:
1.0 mL Plasma from a Dark Green Top Tube - Li Heparin
Collection Instructions:
Due to smearing of print while on ice, please label specimen following procedure and place a second label in the pocket of transport bag with requisition.
1. Pre-chill tube before collection.
2. Place specimen in ice bath immediately after collection, before centrifugation
3. Centrifuge and separate specimen within 20 minutes of collection.
4. Place on ice for immediate delivery to the laboratory.
5. Keep on ice during transportation and delivery to the testing department.

Clinical Significance:
Rasburicase (ELITEK) therapy is indicated for the reduction of uric acid levels in patients with leukemia, lymphoma, and solid tumor malignancies who are receiving anticancer therapy expected to result in tumor lysis and subsequent elevation of plasma uric acid.
