Patient Preparation: Overnight fasting is required.
Specimen Requirements: 1.0 mL Frozen Serum from a Red Top Tube in a Plastic Vial
Collection Instructions: Allow blood to fully clot (about 1/2 hour) at room temperature (20-25ºC). Centrifuge in a refrigerated centrifuge and separate immediately.
Minimum Volume: 0.8 mL Serum
Transport & Storage: Temperature/Stability: 72 hours Refrigerated
6 months Frozen (Preferred)
Rejection Criteria: Ambient; Grossly Lipemic (serum); Grossly hemolyzed (serum)
Reference Range: ≤18.8 pmol/L

Proinsulin is used to detect and monitor excessive hormone production from insulinomas.
