Patient Preparation:  
Specimen Requirements: 3.0 mL Whole Blood in a Lavender Top Tube - EDTA
Collection Instructions:

Testing requires the patient's recent travel history and countries of travel, please print form Addendum A and return with order and specimen

Mix tube by inversion 5 times

Specimens must not be clotted. 

If specimen to be delayed by more than two hours,
 please make 1 thick and 2 thin slides must be sent with the specimen

Since parasitemia may fluctuate, multiple smears might need to be ordered. These can be tanek at 8-12 hour intervals for 2-3 days.
