Overnight Fasting

Specimen Requirements: 4.0 mL Whole Blood in a  Grey Top Tube - Na Flouride
Collection Instructions: Draw patient 1 hour after oral ingestion of d-Xylose
Label sample vial with patient's name and the time of collection postdose (e.g., 1 hour, etc.).
Minimum Volume: 1.0 mL

Clinical Significance: Xylose Absorption Test is useful in screening for carbohydrate malabsorption.
 
Documentation: There are only a few mild adverse reactions reported with this test. They include nausea, cramping and diarrhea for a few hours.
