If it will be over 24 hours before specimen gets to the testing laboratory, please contact PHL Client Response at 266-1500 (Option 2) to request a Stat courier to maintain the integrity and stability of the specimen.


Specimen Requirements:

3.0 mL Fluid in a Green Top Tube - Li Heparin in a Plastic Vial 
Minimum Volume:
1.0 mL Fluid*

* This volume does not allow for repeat testing

Specimen Information:

Order must include the site and/or source of collection. 

Keep tube tightly capped to avoid exposure to air.


Collection Instructions:

Specimens should be aspirated anaerobically


Rejection Criteria:

Red Top Tube with clot activator

EDTA is unacceptable


Transport and Storage:
  • Refrigerated (2-8°C): 24 Hours

    Keep specimen refrigerated until and during transport.

The reference range will vary depending on the type of fluid submitted.
