Surgical Pathology Request Form

Aspirate Smear
1. Prepare 6 air-dried smears containing marrow particles
2. Place labeled smears in an airtight container
3. Smears will need to be placed and transported separate from aspirate; as the fixative fumes interfere with staining and make interpretation difficult

Aspirate Clot
1. Place Aspirate Clot in airtight container with B-5 fixative
2. After 2 hours pour off B-5 fixative and place bone core biopsy into a second airtight container
3. Cover the aspirated clot with 70% Ethanol
4. Note time on container as to the time of the Ethanol addition

Bone Core Touch Prep
1. Prepare 2 to 4 touch prep smears of bone core
2. Air dry
3. Smears will need to be placed and transported in a separate airtight container from Bone Core; as the fixative fumes interfere with staining and make interpretation difficult

Bone Core Biopsy
1. Place Bone Core in airtight container with B-5 fixative
2. After 2 hours pour off B-5 fixative and place bone core biopsy into a second airtight container
3. Cover the Bone Core with 70% Ethanol
