Patient Preparation:

Overnight Fasting is Required

Specimen Requirements:

3 (three) - 6.0 mL Serum from Red Top Tube(s) in a Plastic Vial(s)

Collection Instructions: this process for each of the 3 tubes
Red Top after drawn must be full with 6 mL of fasting whole blood specimen in a red-top tube (no gel).

Allow serum sample to clot for one (1) hour in a 37° C (98.6°F) water bath, oven, incubator, or heat block.

After clotting, centrifuge the specimen for 10 minutes at 1600 RCF(G) utilizing one of the 3 options below:
1) In a "warm" centrifuge at 37° C.
2) In a bench-top centrifuge placed in a "warm room" at 37° C.
3) At room temp, in a bench-top centrifuge prewarmed by running it for 10 minutes @1600 RCF(G).

After centrifuging, decant (gradually pour from one container into another, especially without disturbing the sediment) serum into a screw-cap vial
and transport at room temperature.

Note: If the sample is not kept at 37°C during all processing steps, the cryoprecipitate if present can precipitate out of solution and be lost in the clot or during the centrifugation process and result in a false negative result. and transport screw-capped vial at room temperature.

No other tests can be added to the tube; cryocrit and cryoglobulin evaluation only

Minimum Volume: 2.0 mL Serum
Transport & Storage: Temperature/Stability: 72 hours Ambient after centrifugation process
Rejection Criteria: Gross hemolysis • Grossly Lipemic • icteric • Refrigerated • Frozen • Serum Separator Tube (SST®) • Gel
Reference Range: Cryoglobulin Qualitative: Negative
%Cryocrit: None Detected
Critical Ranges:
Test Comments:
Methodology: Visual inspection
Clinical Significance: The Cryocrit is primarily intended for following a patient with previously defined and quantitated Cryoglobulins. The Cryocrit may consist of Cryoglobulins, fibrin or mixtures of Cryoglobulins and fibrin.
