Patient Preparation:  
Specimen Requirements: 3 gm Unpreserved solid Feces in a sterile container
Collection Instructions: Collect undiluted feces in clean, dry, sterile leak-proof container.  

Do not add fixative.
Minimum Volume: 0.3 gm Feces
Transport & Storage: Temperature/Stability: 3 days Ambient 
3 days Refrigerated

Rejection Criteria: stool collected in a container with fixative or perservative; Non standard containers provided by the patient from their home
Reference Range:

Normal: < 80 mg/g
Borderline: 80 - 160 mg/g
Abnormal: > 160 mg/g

Critical Ranges:  
Test Comments: NSAID's may cause elevated results.
Methodology: Particle - Enhanced Turbidmetric Immunoassay (PETIA)
Clinical Significance: Diagnose imflammatory bowel disease (IBD), including Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis.  Differentiate IBD from irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)
