5.0 mL Peripheral Blood Blood in a Lavender Top Tube - EDTA

Collection Instructions: Fill tube, invert gently 5-6 times

 

Minimum Volume: 3.0 mL Whole Blood EDTA
Transport & Storage: Temperature/Stability: 48 hours Refrigerated

 Specimen has a 48 hour stability.  Specimens must arrive at PRMC n the Sendout Department by 4 p.m. if collected on a Friday.

Methodology: Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR)
Clinical Significance: The detection of BCR/ABL by RT-PCR has similar utility as the FISH assay. However, RT-PCR is generally used for MRD and response to tyrosine kinase inhibitor therapy due to its greater sensitivity, approximately .01%.
