Specimen Collection & Preparation

Client Notes

Inform the patient that the test will take a little over one hour and that they will need to remain in the building during that time.


Specimen Requirements:

-OR-

1.0 mL Plasma in a PST Mint Green Top Tube - Li Heparin
Minimum Volume:
0.25 mL Plasma*

* This volume does not allow for repeat testing

Collection Instructions:

1.  Administer the 50 grams of Glucola beverage by having the patient consume the beverage within 5 minutes.
2. Start timing the test after the patient has finished the drink.


Processing Instructions:

Centrifuge and separate from cells within 4 hours of collection.


Transport and Storage:
  • Ambient (18-24°C): 8 Hours
  • Refrigerated (2-8°C): 3 Days
