Patient Preparation

Prior treatment with antibiotics could inhibit or prevent growth of Group B Strep.

Specimen Information:


Collection Instructions:

Specimen must be collected at 35 to 37 weeks gestation collected from the Vaginal/Rectal area.

  1. Open eSwab collection kit
  2. Grasp swab above pink breakpoint line. Swab the distal vagina first, followed by the rectum, inserting swab through the anal sphincter.
  3. Open eSwab culture tube. Place swab in tube, breaking off at pink breakpoint line. 
  4. Cap tube securely, label appropriately, and send to lab.

  • Refrigerated (2-8°C): 48 Days

Clinical Interpretation

Reference Range:

No Group B Streptococcus detected by DNA Amplification


Test Comments:

If the GBDNA is positive and the patient is allergic to penicillin, susceptibility testing reflexes.
