Specimen Collection & Preparation

Specimen Requirements:

1.0 mL Plasma from a Grey Top Tube - Na Fluoride K+ in a Plastic Vial
Minimum Volume:
0.5 mL Plasma*

* This volume does not allow for repeat testing

Collection Instructions:

  1. Invert specimen 6 times. 
  2. Place specimen in ice immediately after collection and transport directly to lab.


Processing Instructions:

  1. Centrifuge and separate specimen within 15 minutes of collection.
  2. Place the separated specimen back into the ice. 
  3. Specimen can now be shipped to the laboratory in ice or frozen for transport.

Collection Instructions:

Venous specimens should be obtained without the use of a tourniquet or immediately after the tourniquet is applied. Alternatively, the tourniquet should be removed after the puncture has been performed, and the blood should be allowed to circulate for several minutes before the sample is withdrawn.


Processing Instructions:

Centrifuge and separate from cells within 15 minutes of collection

Keep specimen on ice until analysis
