Specimen Requirements:

3.0 mL Whole Blood in a Lavender Top Tube - EDTA
Minimum Volume:
1.5 mL Whole Blood*

* This volume does not allow for repeat testing

Collection Instructions:

Mix tube by inversion 5 times

Do not centrifuge

Specimens must not be clotted. Overfilling or underfilling may allow blood to clot. Specimens may be rejected due to improper storage or age of specimen.

Reference Range:

Pediatric: 
0 days to 1 month: 42.0 - 66.0%
1 month to 2 months: 33.0 - 55.0%
2 months to 4 months: 28.0 - 42.0%
4 months to 6 months: 32.0 - 44.0%
6 months to 1 year: 31.0 - 41.0%
1 year to 6 years: 33.0 - 41.0%
6 years to 14 years: 34.5 - 43.00%

Males > 14 Years: 40.0 - 54.0%
Females > 14 Years: 35.0 - 48.0%


Critical Ranges:

NICU <= 15 days old Critical Limits: 
HCT: <= 30% and >= 70%
NICU >15 days old Critical Limits: 
HCT:  <= 25% and >= 70%

Pediatric (<= 15 days old) High Critical Limit:
HCT: >= 70.0%
