Order must include the patient’s age all information regarding treatment, family history, and tentative diagnosis. Mayo Biochemical Pt Info Form

If not ordering electronically through Mayo will need to fill this out to be sent with specimen Mayo Biochemical Genetics Test Request


Patient Preparation

12 to 14 hour Fasting

Patient must not consume any alcohol for 24 hours before the specimen is drawn.


Specimen Requirements:

1.0 mL serum in an SST Gold Top Tube
Minimum Volume:
1.5 mL Serum*

* This volume does not allow for repeat testing

Collection Instructions:

For babies/infants, specimen should be collected before the next feeding


Rejection Criteria:

Gross lipemia
