Patient Preparation: Overnight Fasting preferred
Specimen Requirements:

1.0 mL Serum from a Red Top Tube in a Plastic Vial

Collection Instructions: Centrifuge serum samples within 1 hour of collection and transfer serum to sterile, plastic, screw-capped vial(s).

After clot formation centrifuge sample and pour off serum into a transport tube. Store sample refrigerated or frozen.

Store sample refrigerated or frozen.
Reference Range: Cholic Acid ≤2.8 umol/L
Deoxycholic Acid ≤2.3 umol/L
Chenodeoxycholic Acid ≤3.9 umol/L
Total Bile Acids ≤8.3 umol/L
Methodology: Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry
Clinical Significance: Bile Acids, Pregnancy - Intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy requires rapid TAT of results. Samples for this test will be run straight and on dilution to improve TAT.
