Specimen Requirements

7.0 mL aliquot from a well mixed 24 hour Urine Collection in a Plastic Container


Transport And Storage

48 hours Ambient
5 days Refrigerated (transport)
14 days Frozen


Collection Instructions

1. When starting the 24-hour period, urinate and discard (throw-away) this specimen. NOTE THE TIME
2. From that time on, collect all urine by urinating into a clean container and transfer into the provided container. 
DO NOT URINATE DIRECTLY INTO CONTAINER.
3. Try to pass the last urine just prior to the end of the 24 hour period. Add this urine into the container. 
4. Urine Specimen should be kept refrigerated during and after collection.

Avoid worksite collection. Collect urine in an acid-washed or metal-free plastic container. NOTE: Test performed on a specimen submitted in a nontrace element tube/container (not acid-washed) may not accurately reflect the patient's level. If a nontrace element tube/container is received, it will be accepted for testing; however, elevated results are reported with a message that resubmission with a trace element tube/container is recommended.Avoid worksite collection
