Specimen Collection & Preparation

Patient Preparation

Avoid direct sunlight. Avoid taking allergy causing drugs, antihistamines, oral corticosteroids, and substances which block H2 receptors for at least 24 hours before collection.


Specimen Requirements:

1.0 mL Plasma from a Lavender Top Tube - EDTA in a Plastic Vial
Minimum Volume:
0.2 mL Plasma*

* This volume does not allow for repeat testing

Collection Instructions:

Avoid Hemolysis


Processing Instructions:

Centrifuge and separate plasma from cells immediately

Freeze


Rejection Criteria:

Lipemic specimens

Hemolyzed specimens

Ambient specimens

Refrigerated specimens

Clinical Interpretation

Reference Range:

< or = 1.8 ng/mL 


Test Comments:

Results 2.2 ng/mL or less may include individuals with mild elevation of histamine due to limits of sensitivity of assay.
