IgG Synthesis Rate/Index, CSF

Last Modified: 8/23/2019 7:08:02 AM

Specimen Requirements: 2.0 CSF in a #4 CSF Collection Sterile Plastic Vial
and
1.0 mL Serum from a Red Top Tube in a Plastic Vial
Collection Instructions: Serum and CSF samples should be drawn on same day for most reliable results

If multiple testing is required for the CSF specimen, please list the testing priorities on the order

It is preferred that the collection date and time be the same for both CSF and Serum; however it is acceptable for them to be drawn within 48 hours of each other. CSF must be crystalline and clear.

Blood contamination and hemolysis may interfere with results. Submitting 4th lumbar puncture collection tube minimizes blood contamination.
Minimum Volume: 1.0 mL CSF & 0.5 mL Serum
Transport & Storage: Temperature/Stability:

7 days Refrigerated
90 days Frozen

Refrigerated CSF at 2-8°C in sterile, plastic CSF vials, and send refrigerated (Cold Packs) to lab
or
Freeze CSF specimens at -20°C and send frozen to the lab on dry ice

Rejection Criteria: Received room temperature • Xanthochromia (yellowish appearance) • RBCs • Hemolysis in CSF
Reference Range: Refer to Interpretive Results
Methodology: Nephelometry
Clinical Significance: The IgG Synthesis Rate/Index is useful in diagnosing and monitoring patients with multiple sclerosis and other inflammatory diseases involving the brain and meninges
Custom Panel: No
