Patient Preparation

Patient should discontinue taking Biotin, Vitamin B7, or Vitamin H 48 hours before getting blood drawn.

Reference Range:

Qualitative:
Pregnant Females: Positive
Non-Pregnant Females: Negative

Quantitative if resulted Positive

Test Comments:

If Human Chorionic Gonadotropin, Quantitative is resulted as positive a Human Chorionic Gonadotropin, Quantitative will be billed and reported.

Patients taking vitamin supplements containing doses of > 5 mg/day may have falsely decreased test results generated.

Documentation

Because of the potential for carryover, this testing cannot be added on to previously tested specimens.  A new PST specimen should be collected for any HCG or PCT order. Testing can be added to a PST specimen that has not been previously placed on an instrument for testing.
