Patient Preparation: Patient should discontinue taking Biotin, Vitamin B7, or Vitamin H 48 hours before getting blood drawn.

Specimen Requirements: 1.0 mL Plasma from a PST Mint Green Top Tube - Li Heparin

2nd Trimester: 3,000 - 50,000 IU/L

Test Comments: If Human Chorionic Gonadotropin, Quantitative if resulted as positive a Human Chorionic Gonadotropin, Quantitative will be billed and reported.

Patients taking vitamin supplements containing doses of >5 mg/day may have falsely decreased test results generated.

Methodology: Immuno Assay

Clinical Significance:

Documentation: Because of the potential for carryover, this testing cannot be added on to previously tested specimens. A new PST specimen should be collected for any HCG or PCT order. Testing can be added to an un-opened extra PST specimen
