Patient Preparation: Fasting

Patient should discontinue taking Biotin, Vitamin B7, or Vitamin H 48 hours before getting blood drawn.
Specimen Requirements: 1.0 mL Serum in a SST Gold Top Tube
Collection Instructions: Centrifuge tubes and separate from cells within 2 hours

Instruct patients that they CANNOT share glucola beverage with anyone as it is for diagnostic purposes. 

If patient has fasting test(s) ordered, they must be collected prior to administering Glucola beverage.

If possible, medications should be noted on the order

1. Administer the 75 grams of Glucola beverage by having the patient consume the beverage within 5 minutes
2. Start timing the test after the patient has finished the drink.
3. Collect subsequent  timed specimens at specific time intervals, based on the test ordered

Reference Range:

16.0 - 166.0 ulu/mL 

Test Comments: Patients taking vitamin supplements containing doses of >5 mg/day may have falsely decreased test results generated.
