Clinical Significance

LEV is currently used as an anti-epileptic drug for the treatment of adult partial seizures particularly as an add-on therapy for refractory patients. It also has potential for other anxiety and cognitive disturbances.

If Brivaracetam has been prescribed, order Levetiracetam by GC/MS.


Specimen Requirements:

1.0 mL Serum from a Red Top Tube in a Plastic Vial
Minimum Volume:
0.5 mL Serum*

* This volume does not allow for repeat testing

Collection Instructions:

Collect as a trough just prior to next dose

Optimum time to collect sample: 0.5 to 1 hour pre-oral dose, trough at steady state (1-2 days after onset of treatment).


Rejection Criteria:

Specimens collected in any gel barrier tubes

Unspun red-top tube (no-gel)

Serum Separator Tubes (SST)
