Specimen Requirements: 1.0 Serum in a SST Gold Top Tube
Collection Instructions:  
Transport & Storage: Temperature/Stability: 48 hours Refrigerated

Specimen to be transported Refrigerated to PRMC within 48 hours of collection to be frozen by Immunology department to maintain specimen integrity until testing occurs. Do not transport Frozen.
Reference Range:
OD ratio < 0.90 indicates no detectable Epstein-Barr Virus IgG antibody.   No evidence of infection or immunity.
 
OD ratio 0.91 - 1.09 is equivocal for Epstein-Barr Virus IgG antibody. Suggest a new specimen be collected and retested.
 
OD ratio > 1.10 is positive for Epstein-Barr Virus IgG antibody. In asymptomatic patients, including prenatal screens, a positive value is consistent with previous infection or immunity.
Critical Ranges:  
Test Comments: A single specimen is of limited diagnostic value in documentation of an acute or concurrent infection.
