Patient Preparation

Patient should discontinue taking Biotin, Vitamin B7, or Vitamin H 48 hours before getting blood drawn.


Specimen Requirements:

0.2 mL Serum*

* This volume does not allow for repeat testing

Transport and Storage:

  • Refrigerated (2-8°C): 14 Days

Clinical Interpretation

Reference Range:

Male: 2 - 12 mIU/mL
Female Follicular: 2 - 15 mIU/mL
Female Midcycle Peak: 22 - 105 mIU/mL
Female Luteal: 0.6 - 19 mIU/mL
Female Postmenopausal: 18 - 153 mIU/mL


Test Comments:

Patients taking vitamin supplements containing doses of >5 mg/day may have falsely decreased test results generated.
