Patient Preparation:  
Specimen Requirements:

2.0 mL CSF in sterile Polypropylene transfer tube


AND

8.0 mL Whole Blood in Lavender Top Tube(s) - EDTA

Collection Instructions: CSF must be collected in a sterile polypropylene tube.
Minimum Volume: 1 mL CSF; 6 mL whole blood
Transport & Storage: Temperature/Stability: Refrigerate if necessary for a maximum of 24 hours, Whole blood-room temperature, avoid freezing

Ship;CSF: Must be shipped on a cold pack or frozen. Whole blood: Ship room temperature or refrigerated, avoid freezing.
Rejection Criteria: Tubes other than polypropylene will be rejected
Reference Range:

Correlation of levels of markers of Phosphorylated-Tau, Total-Tau, and Ab42, Presence of ApoE2, E3, E4 alleles

Methodology: ELISA, Restriction Fragment Length Polymorphism (RFLP)
Clinical Significance:  Detection of ApoE2, E3, E4 alleles and levels of Phosphorylated-Tau protein, Total-Tau protein and Ab42.  
Documentation: Athena does not perform ApoE testing for individuals under the age of 18. Pre-test and post-test genetic counseling is strongly recommended.
