Collection Instructions:
Physician to obtained via lumbar puncture

Always specify order of importance of CSF tests when multiple tests ordered

Note on specimen and order if specimen is from Shunt Fluid

Test Comments: If > or = 5 WBC in the Cell Count a differntial will be reflexed and charged

Due to interferences associated with PHL methodology, CSF protein measurements may not be accurate if intrathecal or intraventricular aminoglycosides have been administered; or aminoglycosides have been administered under conditions that may result in the breakdown of the blood-brain barrier.
